A Love Poem for Math
Christina Sng for Maths@Singapore
The love I’ve had for math
Since I was a child
Has only grown
Over the years.
Adding makes more,
Subtracting takes away,
Multiplication vastly increases,
Division vastly decreases.
Algebra uses alphabets to calculate.
Geometry uses shapes.
Matrices use arrays of numbers,
Graphs use lines and curves.
Word problems use text to explain.
You still have to turn it into numbers
To solve it. This is as true to real life
As mathematics gets.
There’s a comfort in solving math.
They’re one of the few things in life
We have control over.
They are problems we can solve—
Salve for the difficult days we face.
